Les Mesliers Accommodation

We are located in quiet countryside on one of the Coëvron hillsides with fantastic views across valley of farmland and forests where you can enjoy quiet walks or horseriding or mountain biking down country lanes and footpaths. If you yearn for the way the countryside used to be, then you should explore this region to regenerate your soul. There are also many pretty villages nearby, often named as 'Village Fleuris' because of the wonderful flower displays. You can enjoy quiet walks down local lanes and footpaths directly from our self-catering home.

Entrance Drive and Local Walks

Take a pleasant walk down our driveway, breath in the fresh air, listen to the birds, smell the wild flowers along the lane and decide which path to walk along. There is a pretty walk nearby around a woodland that takes almost an hour with wonderful views and shaded paths. If you are more adventurous, you can have a more energetic walk to the top of Mont Fer and explore the area along ancient country tracks.

Le Mans Motor Racing

Only 30 to 50 minutes drive from Les Mesliers, Le Mans is easily accessible for enthusiasts who need to return to a comfortable and quiet retreat. The record was by a group of bikers in 26 minutes. Some visitors relax at the gite for a few days but rough the 24 Hour weekend in June at Le Mans. The entry fee is around £30 - £40. Don't forget that there are several additional Le Mans events each year, such as the motorbike event in May and the classic cars event in July.

Evron and Swimming Pool

A short drive from Les Mesliers is the town of Evron, which has supermarkets, swimming pool, restaurants, banks, veterinaire and shops.There is a market every Thursday morning. The historic Basilica abbey in the centre of Evron existed from the tenth century with a mixture of Romanesque, Gothic and Medieval architecture. Guided tours are available. The swimming pool area has a main indoor pool and a childrens pool and play area with a variety of entertainment features making it ideal for young and old alike.

Popular Places Nearby

We're near Le Mans and many other interesting places, such as the Galo Roman town of Jublain, La Fleche Zoo, Bagnoles and Saulges Caves. You can have easy day trips to Mont Saint Michel, Fougeres, the bell foundry at Villedieu-les-Poelles, vineyards in the Loire valley region or perhaps the Bayeau Tapestry at Caen. Paris is only 2 hours away on the high speed TGV (from Le Mans) where you can see the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe; we recommend staying overnight in Paris to experience the night life , restaurants and shops.
Hot air ballooning is available 10-20 minutes drive away.

Festivals

The Medieval festival at Domfront and other places is held in the summer or you can get a Medieval taste at the Medieval centre nearby at Ferte Clairbois most of the year. You can try your hand at archery, watch jousting tornaments, hire and wear Medieval costumes, etc. There are normally artisans market stalls selling their crafts and regional produce with vendors dressed in Medieval attire ready to share their knowledge of their craft.

Family Entertainment

We provide entertainment at Les Mesliers, such as the splash pool, swings, games and archery. When you want to explore, a short drive away is the local Sillé forest has a large lake and beach where you can enjoy fishing, walking, pony riding and boating. A little further away there are even more places to keep children happy, such as the fun park at Papea City in La Mans, animal contact at La Fleche Zoo, interaction at the Medieval centre near St Suzanne castle.

Our Local Pub

mont-st-michel Just up the road to St Pierre is our lively local Pub L'Homme Vert run by an English couple Jenny and Jon. Tuesday evening is musical evening where anyone can join in so bring your own guitar or other musical instrument. They serve locally produced or more conventional beer. Jen is always happy to serve you a meal if you book ahead in time.

Our Local Village

Saint Georges is a pretty little village with the river Erve winding through it. From the 16th to the 19th century, water mills have taken their mechanical energy from the Erve for milling, tanning, fulling, paper production, sawmills and forges. The popular local restaurant is called La Forge. Pop in for a drink at the bar and practice your French. You can buy bread and cigarettes there too.
